I found this car is special 954cc model and I will change project of restoration of this car.
I got many spare parts from ex-owner and I found racing parts in the box. Twin carburetors with intake manifold,twin plug heads etc.
I want set back these racing parts and racing bucket seats,5 point seat belt, roll cage or fire extinguisher fro vintage race or vintage rally.
I hope this car will back to racing field soon!
I'm happy for share this great news with all. Already I announced stop sell this DB Panhard HBR5, I had frightful time with French buyers.
I restart finish this car for perfect condition also
I checked all document from first owner.
I found Franco-American Motors work sheet of this car on 1970 and show piston size was 92mm! It is not 850cc,it is 954cc tiger engine.
They call "Super Rallye" or "1000GT". 850cc had 58HP and 160km/h maxi but this 954cc has 70HP and 175km/h maxi!
Also this car had close ratio gear box,reinforced crankcase,2554 racing camshaft etc etc.

I found this 1960's D.B Panhard HBR5 at Texas.
This HBR5 has racing equipments (alfin drum brake, quick release gas cap etc),but some parts was missing too.
I'm third owner and first owner visited European Sports car dealer for buy MGA Twincam or Austin Hearly 3000,but he saw this D.B. in show room.
It was $1000 higher than these British sportcar,he drove back to home and held $1000 back to dealer.
Yes it was expensive car.

I send this car to my shop and start inspection of details.
At my shop,side of D.B you can see rival of late 50's Le Mans 24 hour race Lotus Elite.
Both cars had fiberglass body and lightweight. But body design is way different.
This is 48 years old car but still keep great shape!

Especially has optional wood rim steering wheel is beautiful.
Large Jaeger tachometer show over 6,500 rpm without red zone!.
Speedmeter show over 140 mph maximum!and 21852 miles odd,I believed this mileage from condition.
See this lining and carpeting,these are still good shape.
Rear seat cushion was gone but vinyl cover is not break and easy for re-form.
This is optional alfin drum brake.

Spare tire in trunk and fuel tank is way in trunk.
Fuel tank smell sweet meaning old gas in there.
Start repaint,this is after fixed crack of fiberglass body and spray seeler.
Black spray for check smooth surface.
Already this car had repainted a couple of diffrent color and I found red was first color but I decide paint French Racing Blue on this car.
Original color was white but I choose French Racing Blue for this car.
Fuel tank was rusty and aready many holes on it. I tried fix it but not success and I gave up.
I wil make aluminum fuel tank .

This is number plate light housing,also made by aluminum.
Beautiful alfin drum brake with 3 ears spinner.
This spinner is not real center lock and just decoration.
Headlight cover trim is made by aluminum too.

Yes it is trim of wheel arch of this car,but I believe it is to much dressy for this kind sports car.
Still I can not decide put this trim on my car or not, because this is 50's traditional French car's art of design.
Already I gave up for use original gas tank and I made shelf by thick ply-wood on spare tire.
I will make stainless steel gas tank on it.

I did not like finish of driver side door and I repainted it also I made missing door panels for both doors.
How about this color and pattern, this is not cloth it vinyl leather and my wife selected.
I saw it I was choke but now I beieve it is real French taste!
Later I found this pattern is very famous "Bargello" flame stetch (France).
My wife was right this is real French taste.
Also I painted mat black on top of door,originaly this area painted body color.
See this is in the course of nature relation from dush board right!
Temporary I set up olr California license plate and put on French international sticker,how do you think?
Front license plate is dummy old French license plate for Holly wood movie.

Both cars were born for racing and already has Dr.Kamm's tail but management were a little different.
Took out seats and seat belts.
Cushion of rear seats was gone but 50 years skin is still good shape and I rebuilt seat with original skin.
I made new panel and cushion.
Clean up skin and recondition with moisture.
Can you believe this is seat with 50 years skin!
These are front seats,not good shape buy still skin are good condition.
I know French car's seat are great and I want see their technique.
Fiber and sponge were gone but wired cushion is great condition and this cushion made great ride and holding.
Look a like sand, this is broken down sponge.
Repaint seat frame,still spring is good shape and has tension.
Wood rod in channel bar for tacking seat cover, but it is to old and I made by willow.

I made new fuel tank by stainless steel.
I sold this car and new owner want entry Monte Carlo Rally and I modified rally spec.
I took out glove box door and set up Speed pilot and Tripmaster.
It finished! I set up front and rear bumpers and fog lights for rally.
Special 954cc engine is powerful and racing alfin drum break is strong!
